The following health related Websites and books have been recommended and reviewed by pediatricians, dentists, social workers and other health care professionals. The Websites offer pediatric medical, dental, and general health and safety information.

General Health Web Sites

Nationwide Children’s Hospital Patient Health Information Library
Nationwide Children’s Hospital provides age appropriate health information, games, breaking news (including important recall information), quizzes and much more for parents, kids and teens.  

Nationwide Children’s Hospital Community Education Courses (including ADHD Academy)
Nationwide Children’s Hospital offers community education classes across a wide range of topics from safety and first aid to managing behavioral issues and nutrition. Community education classes are offered for parents and kids, as well as classes designed solely for parents or solely for kids

American Academy of Pediatrics
This site, from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) offers up-to-date health new on immunizations and other pediatric issues, health advice for parents, and links to recommended books and AAP publications.  The AAP parent and patient-specific rescource is healthychildren.org. The AAP and its member pediatricians dedicate their efforts and resources to the health, safety and well-being of all infants, children, adolescents and young adults.

American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
This site, from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) offers advice for parents, and health care providers about children’s dental issues and needs. AAPD is the membership organization representing the specialty of pediatric dentistry. The web site offers policies, guidelines for care, and a registry of dentists.

Arthur’s Hooray for Health!
This series of tips and activity sheets for parents and kids focuses on topics like eating well and staying fit, dealing with asthma, dental hygiene and more, based on the popular Arthur TV program and book series.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
This site, from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), provides up-to-date health statistics, alerts for travel safety, and information on a range of topics. The CDC is the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people at home and abroad, and offers information to enhance health decisions.

National Institutes of Health: Health Information
This site contains advanced information on specific conditions, clinical trial programs, drug information, and other federal health resources.

CHADD is a nationally recognized authority on ADHD

National Institute of Mental Health
This government site offers extensive information about the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of common mental illnesses.

Barney’s Playground Safety Tips
Helpful tips and safety procedures for helping kids have fun and safe playground experiences.

NHTSA – Child Passenger Safety
This government site is a good source of information about child safety seats and how to protect your child while they are in the car.

Kids in Danger – Product Safety
This product safety site includes information about recalls of dangerous children’s products, how to protect children and how to advocate for safer products.

The Injury Prevention Program
This site, presented by the American Academy of Pediatrics, provides age-specific safety tips for helping to prevent injuries; and guidelines for bicycle, water, and home safety.

Caillou’s Safety Tips
This site, featuring information for parents and caregivers, offers safety tips on fire, street crossing and more, from the creators of this popular PBS Kids series.

Kids and Family Web Sites

Starbright World
This site is a free online community that connects kids living with chronic and serious illness. It can be accessed from 95 children’s hospitals across North America, and in the home. Starbright World also offers illness-related computer games to teach kids through play.

Sesame Solutions: Health
This site provides health-related games, stories and activities for kids, starring the Sesame Street characters young children love, plus advice for parents on communication from experts Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish, authors of How To Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk.

The Dougy Center for Grieving Children
This site provides age-appropriate information and resources for children who have experienced the death of a loved one.

KidsHealth
This site, from the medical experts at the Nemours Foundation, offers health games and information for kids, plus relevant advice for parents.
